ROBERT GLASPER’S BIG VISION

The jazz pianist cuts a swath through genres from warm acoustic jazz to socially conscious R&B and hip hop

Jazz pianist Robert Glasper’s musical palette is beyond broad; its texture is deep and its colours wild like a Jackson Pollock canvas. His recordings cut a swath through genres from warm acoustic jazz, to inventive traditional and contemporary R&B and socially conscious – sometimes hard edged – hip hop. His extensive resumé of collaborations and projects is as long as Miles Davis was eccentric.

Glasper’s recent projects include the in-your-face 2019 hip hop/rap mixtape project, Fuck Yo Feelings; work with Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard last year on her acclaimed solo record, Jaime; and his most recent release – a film soundtrack for The Photograph which hit theatres last week.

Just three in an amazing and varied collection of work the Houston-born musician has been part of since his debut release in 2004.

There’s a lot of Robert Glasper to explore. Today, Kurated shares an album he recorded in front of a live audience at the legendary Capitol Studios with his trio in 2015. It’s a mellow and lively acoustic piano, drum and stand up bass set driven by Glasper’s playing.

Kurated is a music sharing project.
Stay tuned,
