BROS. LANDRETH ARE HITTING STRIDE

On the road and the summer festival circuit with a new album (and Bonnie Raitt in their corner)

Juno Award-winning duo Bros. Landreth are buzzing. With good reason. At the start of June they launched a full summer tour schedule promoting their third album Come Morning. The recording has Joey and Dave Landreth feeling true to themselves with a maturing sound.

“It’s … about figuring out what the honest thing to say is in any given moment,” Dave told American Songwriter last month. “As you get further along in your creative journey, you start to trust your intuition a little better and a little more easily.”

Their debut album Let It Lie won the Juno Award for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year–Group in 2015.

That the new release earned them their first interview in the esteemed American Songwriter magazine gives validation. But even better is their musical hero Bonnie Raitt covering their song Made Up Mind on her new release, Just Like That. The piece is the first single from the album which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard upon its release in April. When you hear the tune you’ll know why it’s right in Raitt’s wheelhouse. Both the American veteran musician’s version and the original share her trademark slide guitar and vocal approach. Musician David Crosby said on Twitter, “Oh my god …do your little self a favor …listen to Bonnie Raitt’s new single “Made Up Mind” I think it’s called ……Bonnie’s my favorite singer of all ….”

To be sure the Manitoba-based siblings aren’t charting new musical territory. Comparisons to Raitt, Little Feat, Ry Cooder and John Hiatt are apt. And the album’s opener, Stay, is so similar to the work of Toronto’s Bahamas I thought he either wrote or guested on the song – but that’s not the case.

However, their polished sound features easy-on-the-ears, honey-throated vocals from Joey, lovely harmonies and sweet, relaxed musicianship from bassist Dave and the rest of the band. It’s a perfect welcome back on opening night at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival – the first one in three years. Chances are the Bros. Landreth are going to make you feel as great as they do and like you’re part of that Festival family once again.
