So Faint is so good
Hannah Georgas and Lyn Heinemann bring together
intelligent indie rock/pop
It’s been a great 2026 for Hannah Georgas as she closes in on almost 20 years of making music. She kicked it off as the opening act for the Canadian run of Matt Beringer’s (The National) tour in March; also singing, writing and touring to support Broken Social Scene’s latest album Remember the Humans; setting up her own music label, Beetle Bomb Records and mounting the second edition of Belleville’s Beautiful View Festival with Sean Sroka – her partner in life and music.
Topping the list though is her new album, So Faint, with longtime friend Lyn Heinemann released in mid-October. Their debut collaboration delivers a solid, welcoming 10-songs over 33 minutes drawing on quiet dissonant indie-rock guitar energy, strong vocal harmony and uplifting melodies sitting atop assured, intentional off-centre drumming.
So Faint reunites the duo who first met at a Vancouver recording studio in 2010. They ended up following different paths with Georgas pursuing music and moving east while Heinemann chose a healthcare career after playing with local bands Portico and Drawn Ship. In 2013 she stopped performing but continued writing songs. The two reunited in 2023 starting a long distance collaboration via demos and voice memos between Vancouver and Georgas’ home in Belleville.
Georgas fans will hear a raw, crisp and edgier sound thanks to Heinemann’s influence. She’s leaned toward softer and introspective sounds over the past few years while Heinemann has maintained a guitar-playing edge. Clean and stirring power chords drive a number of the album’s songs which are well balanced against the quieter tunes.
Killbeat magazine writes: “The songs carry dark subject matter with disarming lightness, and an understanding that adulthood rarely offers clean narrative arcs. Instead, it gives us overlapping timelines of loss and possibility. The record sits squarely in that overlap and distills it into sharp, deceptively buoyant pop songs.
Fully Slow was the album’s debut release in August. Heinemann says the song is about wanting someone she left while hoping they might return. She offers, “Fully Slow is about wanting someone who you know deep down will never want you back, but still fantasizing that they do. I’ve always been very prone to pointless intense crushes that remain completely internalized.”
Featuring a sparkling guitar riff and a strong pop melody the bouncing Chain, Chain, Chain was a followup release in September. Georgas says the song “is about choosing commitment while quietly knowing the relationship feels broken. Not because there’s no love, but because love alone isn’t fixing what’s broken. It’s driven by history, loyalty, and the weight of having built something together. Staying becomes a choice grounded in commitment rather than desire.”
To mark the album’s October release So Faint issued a video for Begin Again a song about ““being stuck in cycles of indecision and effort that can feel meaningless,” explains Georgas. “And it’s also about hope for a future after the relationship is over, where it feels good to be alone. The fantasy of feeling somehow brand new and desirable in this unrealized future state.”
What unifies this excellent album and draws us in is the maturity and lived experience in the words and musical dexterity of its authors. The sudden death of Heinemann’s best friend while also enduring the demise of a long relationship shows up in her compositions. Georgas addresses the conflicts of love, partnership and coping with doubt and depression in much of her work. The duo’s range as self aware and seasoned musicians allows variety and cohesion to work together in a meaningful and satisfying listen. So Faint is going places. Fortunately we’re all invited.
