Contributors
The contributors in Part Six of the Sixth Annual Edition of Reader’s Choice are space scientist Chris Gainor and fundraiser extraordinaire Harvey McKinnon. Both were active in the student movement and in their respective student newspapers – Gainor is an alumni from the University of BC’s student newspaper The Ubyssey while McKinnon worked on the the Dalhousie Gazette. They have been avid music fans for decades.
Gainor has been studying outer space for years and has written several books on the topic. One of them went into orbit with Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. McKinnon has been a leading fundraiser for progressive causes throughout his career and has also written a number of books.
• GAINOR PICKS TWO WELL-RECEIVED ALBUMS by notable Canadians Rufus Wainwright and Jeremy Dutcher as his favourites this year.
• MCKINNON CRAFTS an energetic 7-song set that might get you on the dance floor or, at least, shimmying in the kitchen

Folkocracy
Audrey and I went to see Jeremy Dutcher when he was in town, and we really enjoyed his show. After your Kurated post, I picked up his new album, which I like even more. So Jeremy and his new album has my vote.
Another favourite is the Rufus Wainwright Folkocracy album, especially the tracks Twelve Thirty (Young Girls) and Harvest.
About Chris: I’m a historian and writer specializing in space flight and the Cold War. My latest book, Not Yet Imagined: A Study of Hubble Space Telescope Operations, was published by NASA, and recently Asteroid 20041 was named after me. In the past, I’ve worked in the media and in communications in the field of health care. And I’ve listened to a lot of music…

Inveterate playlist maker, dance floor dervish and regular Kurated contributor, Harvey McKinnon has put together an eclectic 7-song playlist. It opens with two songs from Where the Angels Fall, the ninth album from the refurbished Melbourne, Australia band Cat Empire.
“Cat Empire is the best live band I’ve seen in at least 5 years,” says Harvey.
He’s also chased down three singles from 70’s hit-making psychedelic band Quicksilver Messenger Service and unearthed two more acts worth dancing to – Jaya Act and Xavier Rudd.
About Harvey: Harvey McKinnon is a Nova Scotian, somehow living in Vancouver. He raises money for more than two dozen nonprofits in Canada and is the author of six books. He is kind of obsessed about music, comedy, books and theatre.
